"Performance".... well it typically won't perform at all.... least not for long.
If the teeth are damaged then you will hear gnashing and grinding, and other ugly noises followed by popping, jerking, locking up, and generally pretty violent unhappy behavior, followed by the car refusing to move at all.

Also the torque arm in these cars will often make it sound like it is coming from the trans area. You will hear a lot of noise that will change with how much gas you give it. If you have a manual and push in the clutch the noise will often disappear or get much less. Then again I drove a truck with 3 ring teeth rattling around the diff 400 miles to avoid towing fees and it worked just fine although noisy. Pull the cover and see what it looks like
