Tight converter - low viscosity Hydraulic Fluid?
So, 700r4 with a tight converter. In the days of racing we used to mix ATF with Tractor Hydraulic Fluid - this was in either the 350TH or 400TH. We could basically change to flash converter stall. Has anyone done this with a 700r4? I know the GN guys use different levels of fluid (200r4) for drag vs street. The converter in the car is very tight - has anyone used the lighter fluid in a 700r4? If yes, what viscosity have you used. Thanks, byron
Re: Tight converter - low viscosity Hydraulic Fluid?
ATF is 7 - 7.5 weight. The hydraulic oil (tractor oil) has been used many times in 700R4's over the last 20+ years. 40% to 100% depending on the type of racing or the use of the transmission.

Some people with the TTA with 200R4 use the tractor fluid and have great results.

I run 60% tractor fluid 40% Mobile 1 ATF in my 700R4 maybe 100-150 rpm tops less stall on the converter. But trans runs cooler and rear planets get better lube after 20 min at Gingerman raceway trans is about 230-240

Thanks to all. Car came out of the Dyno shop last week. Final tune this weekend - then I am driving to Omaha on Wednesday of next week. Looking forward to the drive (430 miles).
