The hardest part is jacking up the car.

Jack up the car; support the frame with jack stands and let the rear hang down. Take off the wheels, and the brake drums or calipers and rotors. Take off the cover. Clean up the fluid that goes everywhere. Take out the little 5/16" head bolt that holds the pin in. Slide the pin out. Push one of the axles in. The C-clip will fall out; be ready to catch it, or find it. Slide the axle out at least 6". Push the other one in, find the clip, etc. Unbolt the 4 carrier cap bolts. Pull or pry the carrier out. If you take the trans out of gear, sometimes rotating the pinion will make the carrier want to come out easier. Be careful to keep the shims on the correct sides of the carrier.

It sounds harder than it is. If you don't spill the fluid or lose the C-clips, it will take about 10 minutes max to disassemble the center section.
