nwc t5 issues

so i have a nwc t5 that keeps losing 5th gear and reverse keeps popping out. when i first rebuilt the trans i didnt have enough preload, well this last time i made sure it was perfect. still lost 5th and reverse still pops out.

however watching some youtube vids it always shows 5th gear needing to be pressed on and off... the thing is with my 5th gear i replaced it the first time and it literally falls on and off. could this be my 5th gear issue? the no pressure from the shaft agaisnt the gear, if so can i just use some jb weld or something to make it stay on there?

as for reverse.... one day it just started to pop out. no idea why. but this last rebuild i looked at the reverse lever shift rail gear, idler gear, and it is all good. i see no reason why it should be popping out like it does. but while watching those youtube vids it said something how the 5th gear scyro hub somehow controls reverse. so that got me thinking could something be wrong there, even though it looked good? or any ideas on why reverse keeps popping out?

Is the idler gear (what moves when shifting to R) chewed up? You replaced it 5 yrs ago?
Is the shifter still good?

A spline / sleeve compound won't last long term under vibration, but I would put it on a spline like that, which happens to be a whole lot better than a cylindrical fit.

Weld the retaining lock ring for 5th.

And save up for something else like a T56. :good idea:

lol hey jmd. and yaya i want a t56 but bills first. and no the idler gear is good, and never replaced it. it was the 5th gear i replaced. and 2nd i think. and ya the shifter and rails and all that is good. it really doesnt appear to have a reason to be popping out of reverse.

the gear itself just pushes the lock ring out of the way. lol i dont think it would help welding that. but i was seriously thinking of welding the gear on. so nothing will hold the gear it place? other then the suppose to be pressure fit?
