I just pulled a worn out T5 1st gen trans out of my ride and replacing it with the second gen t5.
The 1st gen box has the .73 5th and the second gen has the .63.
Are the 5th gears interchangeable?

No. Or at least, not completely.
The one that goes on the mainshaft (driven) is the same; but the one that goes on the countergear (drive) is quite a bit different.
