Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: 5 speed truck tranny fit 92 ?

Don't bet on it. Bell housing and shifter most especially. (given that manual transmissions in these cars are rotated 17° or thereabouts toward the driver's side, i.e. the mount pad on them and the BH and everything else is moved accordingly, whereas the truck transmissions are "straight up")

The right question to ask at this point is, WHY? Just because a thing "can be done" does not automatically make it A Good Idea. "Free" or "I just already bought it" doesn't count.

Not even a little bit. Let's see, no torque arm mount, shifter in the wrong location, probably the wrong speedometer output....

Re: 5 speed truck tranny fit 92 ?

89-up trucks have a VSS signal different than a third gen. Converter box needed.

Torque arm mount on trans. needs moved to x-member. And trans. mount is in a different place. Crossmember mods needed.

The most important details, and absolute proof you didn't bother looking at pictures of both to weed out your question before it was brought to seed in the fertilizer cognizance:

shifter location is very far forward. Even if you made that work, the shifter lever is longer, making it drive like a truck. In other words not what you want in an F-body.

And there is always the most important detail:gear ratios. Miserable, widely spaced gear ratios. Why does no one here ask about going to a granny gear first, and wide overall gear ratio spacing? Because it is less fun to drive, more work to drive it, and it ultimately doesn't match well with the weight or use of the vehicle.

Short version: you don't save money doing it the wrong way, and truck 4 speeds that worked in you uncle's rotted 72 Camaro sucked too. Don't listen to someone who was doing it the wrong way in 1978.They still aren't a good source of info. And no, the carburetor they offered you should not be used either.

OK,so I know now....
I'll leave it in truck....let someone else own it....

That's all i needed to know....
I also have a 4.3 s10 with 5-speed....The first gear in it seems granny....
I love it in truck though,i usually take off in second gear....
But i guess it wouldn't be good for camaro either....

thanks for input,i'll not mess with it....Glad i asked first...I found one still in truck I HADN'T BEEN TO LOOK AT YET....darn caps....

First should be 4.5:1, so that's pretty shitty for a car. And it's probably a nv3500, not a t5

+++on that.

The PO of my '88 L98 IROC hillbillied a V-6 T5 swap in my car...even with the 2.77 rear gear, the 4.03:1 first gear is absolutely ridiculous. I'm shifting to second gear before I even get clear of an intersection...which is why I just bought a T56 to put an end to the foolishness.
