Speedometers
Speedometers
Hello to al my name is mike and I have a 85 iroc, with a tremec T56 trans and a 350 block engine. I need help as to which mechanical speedometer cable I need for my application. The cars axles are stock if that helps but I don't know which cable I need. I also would love to upgrade old 85mph speedometer with a later gen camaro that has 110-120mph
Any help will be appreciated... I'm at a brick wall and don't know what to do with this problem. Thank you for any help

Re: Speedometers
A cable is a cable is a cable is a cable. 1 turn in at the trans end, = 1 turn out at the speedo end.
Just not that complicated.
Kinda like a garden hose... 1 ounce in = 1 ounce out. Can't work any other way.
Any cable THAT FITS (right length, curves reinforced in the right spots if necessary, bolts up at the ends, etc. etc. etc.) ... FITS.
Speedos are all the same. 1000 cable revs = 1 mile. That's all there is to it. Brand, age, car model, Frod, Camaro, truck, etc. etc. etc. doesn't have anything to do with it. 1 mi = 1000 revs. Nothing more complex than that.
Then of course, if the cable happens to be turning 1000 revs in 1 min in a sustained manner, that's 1 mi every 60 seconds. Why in fact, that's 1 mile per minute. And even more striking, since there's 60 minutes in an hour, that same 1000 revs per minute equals 60 miles per hour. Wow. What a DEAL.
Isn't 3rd grade arithmetic FUN???
That said, all speedos are ... wait for it ... wait for it ... not yet ... wait ... wait a bit longer ... here it comes ... 1000 revs per mile. You can put a 0 - 120 mph speedo, or a 0 - 145 mph one for that matter, or even take out a 0 - 145 mph one and put in one of those stoooopid 0 - 85 dual pointer things like my 83 had before I put a 0 - 145 one into it, into ANY car that it'll bolt into. The speedo does not care. The cable does not care. 1 mile = 1000 revs of the cable.
It's just WAY too eeeeezy. Don't outsmart yourself. I mean, hell, I'm the only person I'm smart enough to outsmart, and I do that ALL THE TIME. And even I can't manage to screw this up, even if I try. It's gotta be eeeeezy. If I can do it, you can do it. Really.

Re: Speedometers
Remember, your speedo is cable driven (mechanical).
To keep it simple, you need to replace it with ....... a mechanical speedo like a 145 mph version.
The later speedos are electronic, and although it is possible to swap to one of those, it is a more complex swap.
