V6 700r4 Replace clutches only
What up peeps. So I have been watching a lot of vids on how to teardown a 700 and have a few questions. What clutches make me go from 1st to second? Are they all the way at the bottom of the case?? When going from 2nd to 3rd the clutches that are used are the 3-4 clutches right?, And 3rd to 4th still use the 3-4 clutches as well right? My transmission shifts pretty good but not excellent. From 1st to second I get a nice firm shift so I take that as those clutches are still good. From 2nd to 3rd I also get a firm shift only when cold, once it warms up it still shifts good but flares a lot and I sometimes get a somewhat firmer shift like when cold. From 3rd to 4th I get a good shift nice and fast, not real firm but fast and kinda soft firm if that makes sense, no slipping tho. My reverse is good too no problems. Will it help if I replace the clutches in the input drum( 3-4 clutches right?) And get a new torque converter. From the vids it seems pretty easy.? Can someone break down what clutches do what and were? My trans is a v6 700r4 behind a 3.1 so hasn't seem to much abuse just high mileage.

Re: V6 700r4 Replace clutches only
1st -> 2nd = the band; right near the front, behind the pump
2nd -> 3rd = the band lets go and the 3-4 clutch applies; 3-4 clutches are fairly deep in toward the back
I'm not willing to make any predictions about that. I've never heard of a positive outcome from tearing down a high-mileage transmission and putting it back together without pretty much renewing the whole thing. It's hard enough for a first-timer to nail, even when doing it right. Good luck.
This diagram is labelled "4L60E" but the clutches and stuff are the same as the 4L60 NOT E aka 700-4R, only the control system is different. No shift solenoids in a 700.
