Tranny part swap from '90 700R4 case to '84 case?

The case cracked on my '90 700r4. It was in a 1992 4wd gmc k1500. I found another case but its from a '84 and its not a "k" case. It also has 27teeth on the input shaft (which i didn't know at the time I bought it and tried to install it). I believe it was for a v6 truck?

Can the swap be done if all the parts are still good and a rebuild kit is thrown in the mix?

Josh , no one here is likely to know the answer to your question , because this board covers 1982 through 1992 Chevy Camaro / Pontiac Firebird cars only , the "Third Gen" of the GM F body car .

With that said , in the Camaro/Firebird world our bellhousing bolt patterns are different between our V6 and V8 engines , now for your K1500 if I had to guess I'd say it's likely the same deal , V6 bellhousing not bolting up to V8 engine , but a truck forum is what you'll need for a certain answer ....

I just saw a new old stock 4WD 4L60E transmission for sale on this site. I will try to find it for you.

Re: Tranny part swap from '90 700R4 case to '84 case?

There are significant case differences between the 88+ and the early cases. This applies to trucks, and cars.

And of course, don't look at the 93+ trucks, and 94+ cars. Those are the 4L60-E, which are electronically solenoid controlled, and again, a different case.

Keep looking for an 88-92 case.
