Question about 9 bolt diff cover gaaket
Hi I have a 88 GTA trans am 9 bolt
I'm taking the cover off and my question is with a new felpro gasket do I need to black sealer on it to
Or can just use the gasket

I ditch the gasket and use just the sealer. Some one of the "ultra" variety, Right Stuff, or even (gasp!!) the new one they have that's specifically intended for gear lube applications.
Can't see what benefit a sheet of paper brings to the situation at hand.

With that said, I also use a little black RTV on both sides of that gasket just to make sure.

Be certain that you use a GL5 rated gear lube. That is critical for the hypoid. Do NOT use GL4.
Most modern synthetic GL5 oils already have the LSD friction modifier built in. I didn't add anything else. I used the Redline 75W110 synthetic oil, it has the LSD modifier in it already. Just read the bottle and know what you are putting in.
Take the cover off with the rubber plug still in there. When it is off, push the rubber plug out from the inside so you don't damage it. Finding a replacement will be very difficult. Don't f-k it up.
