4.3L TH700R4 vs V8 TH700R4 - Is it weaker ?

Hi everyone,

Please don't answer if you don't have actual experience with what I'm asking about.

I'm about to get an '84 Z28 with no engine or transmission. TH700R4s aren't not exactly common here, they are around but finding an exact match is not easy. I just missed a '91 TH700R4 from an F-Body 5.0L which would have been perfect...

Anyway, I found another one, but it's from a 1988 Chevrolet S-10 with a 4.3L V6 (8THM).

Now I know they will fit unlike the 60° V6 versions (I have one laying around at home) but are they just as strong as the V8 models ?

I get very conflicting answers, from transmission builders and a lot of research on the internet (and here).

Thanks !

Yep. Probably a better torque converter also.

They are no weaker. Smaller 2nd apply servo and sometimes smaller boost valves. They can be built to take whatever you need here. I have used these as cores to build on for many years. As long as the oil is red to dark brown, no black or water in it. Then you should be ok to use this as a base to start from. I carry everything that is needed for these. I use USPS Priority Mail to ship to France. Let me know if I can be of help...
