Which Year Rear?
If I was to swap my peg legger with 2.73 gears (entire axle) to a 3.4? geared posi with discs (I have drums now), what year would be the best candidate? I know the 4th gen axle will bolt in but I am not sure if I want 4th gen wheels yet. Thanks!

I'm swapping an 87 Z28 posi disc rear into my 92 RS next month.I've heard the 89-92 rear disc brakes are better, but I already rebuilt this rear, so I'm gonna run it.I'd look for the later one with the better brakes if I were you.
You'll need to change the master cylinder when you change to rear discs, also.
hope this helps.

I've always read that the 4 wheel disc master is different from the front disc/rear drum master,
as the rear drums require less fluid volume.
I could be mistaken?
Anybody else have any input on this?

Installed 89 disc rear on my 87 to replace the drum rear. Did not have to replace the master cylinder. Only addition Items need were
1) proportioning valve 2) parking brake cables 3) and depending on the year some brake line fitting. Everything works great.

I installed a 91 or 92 model rear into my 83. I didn't have to swap anything at all, except to make an adapter to hook up the metric lines on the rear to the SAE lines on the car. MC, PV, p-brake cables all work fine.
The older disk brakes do require different hydraulics. The newer ones, that is the ones that actually work (89 or 90 up), use the same hydraulics as a drum system does.
