BW 9bolt 3.08 to 3.42?

BW 9bolt 3.08 to 3.42?
Can i install a 3.42 ratio in place of my curent 3.08 in my86 bw 9 bolt? I remember a car craft article saying any of the 3.xx gears all used the same carrier,is this correct?

Transmission: T400
3.08 is a series 2 gear. 3.27, 3.45, 3.73 & 4.10 are series 3 gears for the 9 bolt. Hence, you will need to use a series 3 carrier and yours is currently a series 2.
