I’m looking to trade my current hot rod for something else. The main offer on the table is an 86 Camaro, I don’t know which package or sub model. He’s done a BBC swap to a 1972 454 bored to 468. It has 700r4 automatic transmission with a 3000 rpm stall converter, 4:10 posi rear end, and he claims that it’s pushing close to 500 hp. My question is, what is the weak link in this setup? I’m nervous that the car or drivetrain may not be able to hold up to the power or weight of the Big Block. Any and all advice, information and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
4.10 pinion gear in a 10 bolt will snap like a pretzel with good traction. Transmission won't take 500 Hp for long. Stock driveshaft might twist up, depending what is in there.
A 3rd gen with 500 Hp will haul ***. Not "sounds pretty healthy", not "feels pretty good".... I mean nose up in 3rd gear, leave a normal LSx car in it's wake kind of haul ***. If it doesn't do that then it's not what he says.
