Overbuilding?
This is more of a "concept" question, as I don't currently have the funds for this, but I was wondering if it was possible to "overbuild" a drivetrain setup with a stock engine. Now, I'm not saying putting a 3500 Stall TC on it, or anything, but would installing a Level 4 700R4 Tranny from Bowtie Overdrives (http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...php?ITEMID=10), a carbon fiber driveshaft from the manufacturer of your choice, and a GM 12 Bolt or Ford-Style 9" rearend hurt the performance of the car?
I'm just curious, as I'd like to be able to upgrade the drivetrain and suspension and other things first in my car, and then work on the engine with no limits, other than funding.

Pretty much what I started to do. Stock trans came out after splitting a torque converter and a TH400 went in, switched engines but hadn't gotten to the rear end yet. Locker broke in the rear so I switched to a 9 inch. Takes a bit more power to turn those rear ends but if you're planning on building a beast of an engine later on, go for it so you have a solid platform already in place.

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know. And that stands the same for the extra stuff they do to that race transmission, or should I ask them about that?

Have the trans built however you want it to be in the end. You can pick up a converter later on down the road that'll match the engine then swap that in the same time as the engine. If you wait till later to change something in the trans, that's just more money.
