700R4 understanding

hi guys,

would just like to confirm if i shift into overdrive that would be 4th gear right?

secondly how long do these boxes take to change gear? for example i will be driving along and to go into the next gear i would have to slowly increase the throttle then back off ever so slighty and it will shift.

lastly, i cannot get the transmision to shift into first. at first glance i thought it was the cable so i pulled it off and manually changed gears with my hand on the shaft slowly counting P,N,R,OD,D,2 but cant find first... what would be the issue there?

Re: 700R4 understanding

Thanks for replying. i took her for a drive out today. OD works so thats cool. now with regards to what you said about line pressure... how do i increase the pressure? so let me explain... when i am driving the only time it would shift up is when i go on the throttle a bit (not WOT) and back off slightly then she will change.

regarding your last question, yes i can feel all 4 gears however i cannot select 1st manually in the car or on the selector at the gearbox

you cant increase the line pressure without getting into the transmission. did you adjust the tv cable? if not, follow these instructions...

Re: 700R4 understanding

The TV cable is effectively a pressure regulator. You need to make sure your TV cable is set properly for low and mid throttle. If it is too loose, you will get poor shifting and destroy your transmission in a short time.

Our cars have auto adjusting length TV cables but you have to reset them to make the adjustment. Press the button down on the top of the cable housing in the bracket while you slide the cable housing backwards towards the firewall and then release the button. Then rotate the throttle arm to full throttle. The cable will "click" as it adjusts to create length in the cable to allow you to reach the full throttle position. Once you release it, the TV cable will be properly set at low and mid throttle.
