700r4 Transmission Quarks
700r4 Transmission Quarks
My truck has 140,000mi on it as far as I know the tranny is stock. When it shift from 1-2 is seems fine but from 2-3 the motor actually increasses rpm right after the shift starts, then drops to 3rd. After it shifts it holds fine. Is this a sign of a rebuild or a normal problem that 700r's have? Is there anything I can do to solve this problem? Can i drive it w/o causing damage?
Thanks
Matt

As far as I know that's a 700R-4 quirk. Mine used to do that real bad then I installed a Corvette servo and fixed it almost completely. I think to really fix it you need the Trans-Go shift kit. I think you're ok driving it.
There's a term for that but I can't remember it.

The Corvette servo was designed to cure this. If it only happened a couple of times you might be able to save this for awhile, but since you have high miles on this unit, it probably is in need of a rebuild. When rebuilding this unit use the Corvette servo and the Trans-Go Junior Shift kit along with the Borg-Warner Hi-Energy 3-4 clutches & 2-4 band with all the updates that are out there.
