What trans is in my 86

I was wondering what transmission is in a 1098 camaro with a 2.8? It is an od trans. is it a 2004r or a 700? I am putting a v8 in so will a 700 bolt right up to the torque arm???

That is a 700 but it has a different bellhousing than the V-8.

If you look at your shifter column and the gears say 1...2...3...D..then a D with a circle around it, it's should be a 700R4. As far as hooking it up to a V8 I think the bellhousing are a different size so it wouldn't fit.

Yes. The nice thing is that with the 2.8 you will have 3.42 gears!

You can use any v8 or 4.3 v6 700r4. You can change the tail housing from your 2.8 tranny. When you do change the gear on the tail shaft to your new tranny. That way your speedo will be correct. Cheers.
