Pump rebuild

I am in the process of rebuilding my 700r4 pump. I bought a kit with the slider, vanes, rotor. In comparison to my old pump parts they appear to be dimensionally the same I measured the thickness of the rotor and slide with a micrometer. Attached are some pics of the insides of the pump pocket and the splines of the stator. The surfaces feel smooth on the pump aluminum and there were no broken vanes. My pump had good pressure before, are the splines ok I don’t really feel any sharp edges is there a way that I can measure them. Excuse the bushings I began driving them out

Re: Pump rebuild

stator splines show some wear, but I think they still will good for a long while. When you reassemble the pump, the two halves must be held concentric with each other with a clamp or fixture until the bolts are tight.

Re: Pump rebuild

Ok thank you, as far as far as pump I read somewhere that the new pump rotor and slide needs to be sanded on 600 wet paper on glass to be flat. They have got to be out of their mind😂 isn’t it already a precisely machined part???

Re: Pump rebuild

Sand it with 600 grit just lightly, on a very flat surface, as a lot of the times there are high spots on the rotor, and that can ruin the pump. Same for the pump slide. Use a new razor blade and drag it slowly on the inside of the slide to make sure there are no high spots. Put a vane in the slots of the rotor, to make sure that the vane moves freely (no high spots in the slots). Put the rotor over the torque converter hub and hit it with a dead blow softly on the sides to make sure that the rotor goes up and down freely on the torque converter hub. Blow everything off with air when done here.

Re: Pump rebuild

I’m not trying to sound annoying, but is it really needed to sand the parts. The reason why I’m nervous is the inside of the slide is very smooth and by doing this will the 600 grit particles scratch the surface. Also there is a stamped F on one side of the rotor does it matter which is facing the pump pocket. My parts are from ct Powertrain on eBay, I guess they are in California like Dana. Also, what about the pocket I don’t feel any noticeable ridge; do I also sand both sides of the rotor and slide
