700r4 transmission skipping 2nd gear

I recently bought a 1983 Chevy S10 that's swapped with a 350 V8. And still has the stock 700R4 transmission in it. As far as I know it has around 100K on the trans but when I accelerate it goes through first fine but once it goes to shift into 2nd it completely skips it and goes to third. I've seen that it could be a servo pin problem but I'm unsure how definate that is. And ideas would help I dont have the kind of money for a rebuild.

If it's a servo or band issue, I don't think you'd have 4th (OD) either.

It seems now that it skips 3rd and goes to 4th and once it goes into 4th is studders until it gains more speed and then drives fine

Likely they didn't setup the throttle valve cable correctly and it's burnt. Check fluid level, and check TV cable adjustment per service manual. If those check out the unit is burnt - replace the trans.

83 S10 with a swap isn't exactly daily driver material - I should hope you have another vehicle. If not - sell that mystery meat and get a Corolla because most likely you bought someone's poorly assembled project. Get out of that mess quick as you can.

It was assembled well it has a Ford 9 bolt rear end brand new Jegs 350 crate engine, but the builder sold it to someone who knew nothing about cars and stored it outside 2 blocks from the ocean and never really drove it.

You're saying it now goes 1-2-4 or 1-3-4?

The more you drive it without confirming the fluid level, that the TV cable is correctly adjusted and that the linkage geometry is correct, most likely the worse it's going to get....unfortunately.

Do you know if the transmission ever shifted like it's supposed to? In 1983, the S-10 never came with a V8 pattern OD automatic. So the transmission that's in there isn't the one it came with stock. Do you know where/how/what was done to it before it was installed?

I know that it was original built by Wise Guyz performance in NJ, but later on someone messed with the ratchet shifter it has and had it so it was barley in 3rd gear and shredded it.
