3rd gen and 4th gen rears,,,,elighten me

Can I put a 4th gen carrier into a 3rd gen (10 bolt and 10 bolt)...axle spline the same/...etc. I have a 4th gen rear and see it's a c-clip axle...are 3rd gen 10 b0olts as well?

I snagged the 4th gen rear because it has a 3 series carrier in it, and I want tio deepen up the gears on my kids car, if carriers won't swap, I'll go through the 4th gen rear with a new gear set and run it.

Thanks

Edit:

The 4th gen rear is from a '94

There are two things I know for certain ;

#1 , the 4th gen rear is slightly wider than the 3rd gen unit , by something like an inch on each side . While it will physically bolt in , the tires will stick out an inch further on each side .

#2 , up till around 1989 , the axles were 26 spline , and then in around 1990 they went to 28 spline .

Other more informed TGO members will have to tell you whether the carriers will interchange or not , were I forced to guess I'd guess they will , but I can't say that for certain .....
