Troubleshoot and Torque Converter questions

I have a 700r4 transmission that was rebuilt about 2000 miles ago~8 months ago, and I sometimes have slippage shifting from 3-4, would installing a corvette servo help this?
Also, my torque converter is starting to go out, and just wanted to know if it's perfectly fine to run a new 1600-1800 stall converter rather than the stock 1400-1600 stall converter.
Thanks! Also, I am new to this community because I just got this car passed down to me. Will be looking forward for all tips and helpful advice.

Re: Troubleshoot and Torque Converter questions

Welcome aboard and post some pics of the new ride. You can find a wealth of info on here and also some fun discussions on third gens.

If your torque convertor is on it's way out than that could be your culprit. You should be o.k. to use a 1600-1800 convertor. It might even work better with your 5.7 than the original 1400. I have heard to get one that fits a 95-96 S-10 with the 4.3 liter six. There is also a TCC lock up solenoid that locks up the convertor on the 3-4 shift. If this was not replaced when rebuilt, you should do it when you replace the convertor. It is located behind the filter screen in the pan.

The Corvette servo will firm up and quicken the shifts, I don't believe it has anything to do with your issue. Make sure your TV (detent) cable is properly adjusted, this will affect your 3-4 shift. You can do a search to find out the proper procedure. You would not believe what a deference in the way the trans shifts and operates with a properly adjusted cable.

Re: Troubleshoot and Torque Converter questions

I don't think I need to replace the TCC lock up solenoid, the only time it slips is when the car is running from a cold start, it slips only that one time such as like leaving the driveway or leaving the neighborhood, I also forgot to mention that the motor and transmission are all stock so that's why I was asking about the new higher than stock stall rather than getting a new stock stall. I'm gonna order a corvette servo kit and install it and while I'm doing it I'll check the adjustment of the TV cable as well.

For a stock TPI, Id probably for something around 2200 rpm. It'll drive like stock but give you the extra punch when you nail it.

Re: Troubleshoot and Torque Converter questions

Might want to consider adding a larger boost valve at the same time. One of the .490" or .500" ones.
