Possible Transmission Issue

Hello all, I just got my 86 Camaro IROC and feel like I may be having some kind of transmission issue just not sure why or how. So asI drove the car on the hwy i noticed the RPM TAC is constantly driving on redline, like seriously Maxing out. At first I thought it was because the Tachometer wasnt working but now i am beginning to think its accurate hence why I feel its a transmission iasue. I suspect this now because I noticed an odd overheating issue. The temperature gauge goes past half as I am going above 60 and begins to rise as i step.on the throttle and raise the speeds. The odd part here is if i come to a stop, just engine idling than temp goes back down to normal abt 1/4 meter. And thisnis where i am begining to think something is up with the transmission although drive is super smooth no stalls no slipping. So super confused here. Any and all help is welcomed. Thanks all

Re: Possible Transmission Issue

The "tach" in these cars (cute little wavy pointer "trim package" thing in the dash) is just that: a trim package intended to make the car "feel" "sporty". Despite its location in the "instrument cluster", it is NOT an "instrument". Practically EVERY ONE in these cars has failed, and they nearly ALL fail by reading higher than reality. Sometimes, ALOT higher; like, redline at idle.

Ignore it.

Note that I am NOT saying you don't have a transmission problem as well; only, that the "tach" indication is unrelated to it, if there is any.

The temp gauge thing doesn't sound like it's working right either. A quick observation with an infrared pyrometer such as from Horror Fake or Home Depot or Amazon or any number of other similar places, https://www.homedepot.com/b/Electric...z1180yZ1z175a5 for example will quickly tell you whether you have a temperature problem or a gauge problem.
