Which 3.42s to get?
Which 3.42s to get?
I just ordered my SLP posi the other day
. Now I need to get some nice 3.42s to replace my hideous 2.73s. I found 3 cars in the junkyards with 3.42s in them, one was a Firebired S/E and to later cars, I think I should get the the gears from one of the later cars, since they have 7.65" gears, what do you think? BTW, did any v6 cars have 16" wheels, if not, I guess I need to get a new speedo gear from the dealer, anybody know the 3.42/16" gear part #, was it used in any other cars?

Car: 92 RS - Fully Restored w/Custom Int
Engine: LO3 with some mods
Transmission: T-5
Axle/Gears: 3.42 Richmond
V-6's came with 15" wheels stock (at least in 92).
Just ask a GM parts dealer for the 3:42 drive/driven speedo gears for your transmission. Not sure if they have the gears for auto, definitely sure they have the gears for a manual.
