What is it with Turbo 350's and Speedo Cables?

Well I've heard before that many people have been having trouble with their shifter cable hitting the speedo cable and breaking the gear. The only thing I've heard was to get a new tailshaft and I really don't want to do that. I've replaced the internal cable once and that night it broke again when I pulled it down into drive. Does anyone know what to do about this? So far I've put like 81 miles on my 350/TH-350 I got three months ago (it's a daily driver).

Any help appreciated,
Matt

I've got a TH350 in an 82 Camaro, and the shift cable is nowhere near the speedometer cable.

I don't have this problem but if I did I would try to move one of the cables, strap it to something etc. I wouldn't just keep installing new parts knowing whats causing the failure and not doing anything about it. Strap it down or re-route one of the cables.

Nope Ive never heard of this problem. I cant even see how its possible for a calble to break a gear.
I can however see A misallignment problem when installing a TH350 with a 700r4 cable and breakage of the cable due to this or since a 4 speed shifter is in use its possible to hammer the selector by dropping it in first really hard a billion times, but it isnt likely.

The problem is that the thing that comes down from the shifter smacks the part of the cable where it first comes out of the tranny (cable part). The only thing I could do is reroute the shifter or adjust it somehow. I'll go out tom. and see if there is any way. Do you think an electric speedo would work?

Thanks for the replys,
Matt

EDIT: Do you think there could be another cause for this? I'll try and get under there and take a pic tommarow so you can see what I'm talking about.

Yea a pic of what your dealing with would be great. I have done quite a few swaps and dont see how any problems can occour. Even if you had a 700r4 and went to a Th350 there should be no problems cables will go in the same place.
But yea post a pic and we can most likely help you out.
