T-5 Adjustment Help

I recently bought an '83 z28 with a T-5 (mechanical clutch), the previous owner said that it got a brand new clutch a couple of years ago and was never used ever since. In order to put the car in gear I need to shove the clutch as far as it will go and use excessive pressure, otherwise it refuses to go in gear, I have no idea why this happens, it also makes a slight rubbing sound when the clutch pedal is being pushed more than halfway. Is the clutch garbage or does it need an adjustment, if so how can I adjust it? any insight would be wonderful, still new to these cars.
