The search for 3.73's???

Do ya'll know a good company that sells 3.73's POSI for cheap. I want to buy the whole rear end, so yeah. But also, I hear you find these in junk yards. What kind of "alot around" cars in the junkyards have 3.73's POSI. Can't forget the posi thing, I hate spinning one tire. Thanks for the info ya'll

Try to find S10's and S10 Blazers, these were known to have posi and 3.73's,mostly the V6 trucks. Also look for any wrecked monte SS's,rare to see in a bone yard, but all had 3.73,not totally sure all had posi.

Yeah, but if I get a S-10 rear end will it be able to handle my torque figures. And you got to remember that I plan on modding it, so THEN while it be able to handle it. Also, this has got to have posi for me to consider it. tanks,

If you want to buy the whole rear end to bolt right in you can forget about anything other than an f-body rear. If you want just the posi and gears out of a whole rear look into a 4x4 s-10 blazer with a small engine (and other vehicles), 3.73's are everywhere but posi rears are a bit harder to find.

Also, how do you tell if a car has posi??? Isn't like, you spin one tire and the other one spins the other direction? I just need to know that because that will help at the junkyard...Thanks,

pull the cover to see if it's posi, if you have 28 spline i'd buy a SLP carrier and a set of gears from gm or richmond.

ede: explain your post to me. Pull the cover on the rear end I have now??? Because, I already am for SURE that I have a 2.72 non-posi on my car. But if at the junkyard, the 28 spline means 3.73??? One more: If I ordered gears from richmond like you said, would I have to build my own rear-end? Because I hear that can be very dificult. But thanks though,

He means at the junkyard; pull the cover to see if it's a posi. If it is, there will be a huge mess of stuff inside; if it's not, there will be some empty space (simple way of explaining that ).

However, if your current rear end has 28-spline axles and you don't have a posi, then the best route is to get the SLP carrier (about $90 from SLP, but it only installs on 28-spline axles), and a set of gears (GM for quiet ones, Richmond for noisy but strong ones) and chuck it all into your current rear end. That way, you're getting nice new parts for about what you'd spend on a whole rear (unless you get a sweet deal).

89s usually have 26-spline axles though. The only way to know for sure is to pull them and count the splines, though.

If you have 28 spline axles, make sure it is a 10 bolt 28 spline and not a 9 bolt (which also has 28 splines). The 9 bolt was the high performance option for 3rd gens in the late '80's and could be in a WS6 car.

Yeah, I haven't thought of what bolt my rear end is, but it's easy. So, if I count the splines, and there are 28...then it is a 3.73, right? Also, I saw a blazer and out of curiosity, I ran over there and twisted the u-bolt the driveshaft SHOULD have been connected to, but it was missing. And the car's left tie spun...that means non-posi, right? Also, about replacing the internals for my rear-end...that's not too dificult is it? Sorry for all the questions, I am just really ready, because I have the dough now. Thanks all!!!

28 spline axles do not mean you have 3.73s, it just means your rear is a newer model. and replacing the internals for the rear-end is a very critical procedure. you have to get the gears set up just right, or it wont last more than a few miles and you wasted your money. id leave the gear swap to a professional if you havent done it before, its nowhere near as simple as just pulling out the old and bolting in the new.
