how much HP is the stock rear good for
Im planning an engine build up with my new Supercharger (D1SC) and am aiming at about 450-550 HP, but im worried about the rear, how much is it good for, or should i just get a better unit altogether, also did the z's get posi track rear ends, or do i have limited slip ?
only differance in posi and limited slip is the spelling, they're the same thing. a 9 inch would be nice and maybe needed, but a lot of people have had 10 bolts live behind some strong engines, and others have broke them the first time out. i had a 10 bolt last in my sons camaro and i dropped a pretty strong engine in it.
actually, theres really no set HP as to what a stock rear end can handle, some people have luck dropping a whole new setup, with excessive power, and some people can break them with the stock motor. Personally, like anything, l think it depends upon how well you treat it, if you maintain its fluid, if you avoid abusing it, and if you have a pretty realistic expectation as to how much power it can handle. My SC's rearend is basically stock, aside from a posi unit l installed. so far its gone thousands of miles, and over 20 1/4 mile passes with a ZZ4 (355 fw HP, and 405 ft lbs) and its running like brand new.
