High effort to drop'89 Formula 350 into gear - ideas?

Got the barnfind '89 Formula 350 started, after a few coughs it lit right up and settled into a smooth idle.

Pulled the shifter into gear, very high effort. (My '87 is a T5, so no good comparison.) Is this common, and if so, what is the fix?

Indicator does not light, either, spidey senses tell me the issues are related.

Thanks!

Cable probably needs lube.

The PRNDL probably needs a new light bulb. Probably not particularly related to the lube thing.
