4th gen rear end for automatic

i am using a 4th gen 2001 engine and auto transmission, my question is what would the ratio be from a posi rear end also 4th gen

2.73, 3.08, 3.23, 3.42, or 3.73. Maybe even 4.xx. Depending on what year, whether it was 6-cyl or V8, auto or stick, whether the PO has changed it out, etc. etc. etc.

Since you're about to take the cover off to change the fluid ANYWAY like any sensible person would do, make a point of finding the numbers stamped on the ring or counting the teeth.

"Posi" is irrelevant here.

thanks for your info. I am trying to get the salvage yard to include one with my engine purchase and they asked me what i wanted for ratio. are there two that would be good with a LS!

Get a 98-up V8 (out of a LS1 car), NOT a 93-97. Those have a FAR better posi and somewhat better brakes. 3.42 is common in those w auto trans.
