700r4 question with aftermarket efi
Hello, I recently got an aftermarket efi system to replace the TBI unit on my 92 Camaro. I had one of these on a 91 car and loved it. It was a t5. Very easy install. My question is, with this car being a 700r4 will I have to do anything special for the 700r4 with an aftermarket efi? Will the lock up still work? Never thought about that when I ordered the system till just now. Can I just leave the stock computer hooked up and bypass it with my aces EFI system, yet the stock computer still control lockup?

Re: 700r4 question with aftermarket efi
As long as the stock ECU continues to get the inputs it needs, and the TCC circuit is retained, it should continue to control lock up.
Your challenge may be that the aftermarket ECU likely needs one or more of those same inputs to run the engine (TPS, coolant temp, etc.), so you'll have to find a way to share them.
I don't know what brand system you're using, but it also might be possible to control the lockup with your new ECU. Just need to figure out when to ground the circuit and when not to.
All else fails, you could also cut out the ECU entirely and use a manual switch.

I appreciate the reply. I ended up getting an aces TBI system.

One of their manuals mentions:
You have some reading to do if you're installing it yourself.

When I swapped from TPI to carb on my 91 Z I added a Painless kit to control the TCC lockup. Works great and adjustable. You have to replace the coil in the trans. It's an easy job. Drop the pan and swap it out.

If you go the aftermarket vacuum switch route, this thread is a goldmine of info and helped me eliminate the constant lock up cycling that can occur with the vacuum switch

I was looking at this switch, seems to be a decent choice as well. Anyone use it before?

Use a relay in that TCC circuit to protect the ECU from any kind of flyback voltage.

I may message you when I get around to installing the setup if that's the route I go. Assuming that's ok with you?
