Shifter Cable keeps disconnecting

The end of the shifter cable that attaches to the transmission keeps popping off. Am I missing a retainer clip here to keep it on, or is one end of the attachment just worn out? I’d really prefer to keep this original shifter cable since I’ve read bad things about most replacements with fitting correctly and breaking quickly.

Thanks guys.

Re: Shifter Cable keeps disconnecting

Remove the ballstud.
Get a bolt that's longer. Add washers, etc. and tack weld things to simulate the ballstud.
Turn it down to match the ballstud, plus a threaded end.
Use two jam nuts to retain.

GM did that trash on 6L80 trucks too. Dorman bushing fixes nothing. My solution works with the original cables, years later.
