As the title says, I have bought 2 new aftermarket cables and the little plastic end piece has popped off both of them, causing me to be unable to shift. I have a 1984 with a swapped in sbc 350 and th350. The car originally had a 700r4 and v6 in it so the shift column in the car has overdrive on it, which makes putting the th350 into gear a bit wonky, but it did work. Can anyone suggest what I need to do? Do I need to get a higher quality cable or switch my shifter out for one that came with a th350 third gen? What models came with a non-overdrive trans?
Thanks!
Thanks!
82' had the TH200c transmissions, which were three speeds. You can see if there is a difference in the part numbers. I am running the same setup as you, TH350, stock shifter and stock cable for the 700r4 and have not experienced that issue (yet).
missed where you put stock cable in your post

This may or may not apply to your situation, but check your grounds. I have seen where bad grounds will use the shifter cable as a path and "burns them out". This also happens with speedo cables.

Upgrade to a heavy-duty cable or switch to a floor shifter.
