So I'm gonna swap a 1994 Suburbans 4l60e into my 1984 Camaro. I already know I'll need a harness and TCU to work it but I'm wondering what else I'll need to change to make it work. I know that thanks to the 4 bolt tail shaft, I'll be able to keep my current torque arm and with some modification, the trans mount will bolt right up. What else would I need for this to work perfectly?

I'm swapping in a 4l60E, the electronically control version of the 4l60. Since it's out of a suburban, it should be able to handle torque better. Plus, got it and a SBC 350 for $600, might as well swap everything out.Originally Posted by bk2life

I'm doing this swap cause I was an idiot and broke my 700r4 somehow while changing the torque converter and really don't feel like replacing the TV cable or the trans oil pump.

but id still fix the 700 with the 4l60 parts and put the 700 back in so it works.
what are you going to use to control the 4l60?

The 700R4 didn't really get "Good" until 1987. In 1990 Turbo-Hydromatic started using a new naming convention for their transmissions. The 700R4 became the 4L60. 1993 was the last year for the 4L60. In 1994 a new fully computer controlled version of the 4L60 was interduced called the 4L60E. The 1994 GMT400 based trucks, vans, and SUVs with automatic transmissions got a new 4th generation PCM to replace the ECM. This PCM controls the 4L60E or 4L80E transmission and is the most advanced computer to ever control the TBI engine. It's lightyears ahead of the older TBI ECMs. The older TBI ECMs are stone age compared to the 1994/1995 TBI/Automatic PCMs & 1996 Vortec TBI/Automatic PCMs.
Note: Vettes might have gotten stuff a year earlier like they normally do.
@Fast355 Probably knows about this stuff.
I'd swap it all if I had the 1994 Suburban to rob of it's PCM and engine/transmission wiring harness.
If not I'd sell the 4L60E and put the money towards a rebuild of a 1987+ 700R4/4L60. The cost of the transmission controller will eat you alive.

I'll be using ACEs EFI stand alone TCU then merge it into my, eventual, EFI set up. Also debating switching to DBW, struggling to source a good pedal though. Originally Posted by bk2life
