4L60E

Is it possible to use a 4L60E in a 3rd gen? If so does it require any special work?

Re: 4L60E

You will definitely need a Transmission Control Unit (TCU) to use a 4L60e.

Re: 4L60E

Maybe swap out the tail shaft housing so your torque arm will bolt up. You will not only need the TCU but the associated harness.

It will work in 3rd gen V6/V8 with an electric VSS and 700R4/4L60 tail shaft housing.

Re: 4L60E

unless the trans is built substantially, and you got it VERY cheap... you're better off finding a 700r4...

TCU's are expensive, 800 something from TCI last i knew, plus the harness which was another 150 or something like that.

Re: 4L60E

According to my GM shop manual, my 1990 Camaro rs tbi 305 is equipped with the 4l60, (formerly THM 700-r4) is there any difference between a 700-r4 and a 4l60? what is the difference between a 4l60 and the 4l60e?

Re: 4L60E

4l60 is the same as the 700r4, it was just renamed in the latest years of production.

4l60e is an electronically controlled version of the 4l60, so 4l60e requires a separate TCU (Transmission Control Unit) to be able to work properly.
