I've tried everything simple and still have no gears

Finally reassembled my drivetrain after roughly 3 months of working on the car. Got the transmission in, started the engine and tried to shift gears but got nothing but neutrals. I checked the fluid level and topped it up, still nothing. Checked the detent cable tention, even pulled on it while my partner shifted through gears, not even any grinding. Made sure the TC was fully seated and primed fully, still nothing. I'm at a loss and can't figure out what the he'll could be wrong with the thing. It sat for maybe 6 months while I cleaned up the engine but it had fluid in it. And it worked perfectly when I bought it back in February. Anyone got suggestions?

Sounds like those little check ***** in the valve body might be in the wrong place or missing

It doesn't sound like the OP touched the trans pan, valve body or therefore, check *****.

Seems like it should be simple/obvious...but it also seems like you've covered the bases on the "simple/obvious". I might hook up a gauge and check line pressure.

Hmmm, yea definitely time to check pressures. Could possibly be a pump issue
