I'm swapping out my 305 for a 350 with about 345hp. Will my borg werner 5 speed be able to handle that much for a cruiser? Car is a 1986 iroc z with original trans and rearend.

Re: 1986 5 speed

Depends on your driver.

People have torn those up with a 6-cyl. Others have made em live behind a 400. Depends on how it's driven.

Re: 1986 5 speed

Yes and no! Yes if it's in good shape and cautiously abused it should hold up. I had a zz4 hooked to my t5 for years. I did plenty of tire spinning and had fun. But I was always cautious. That said, It you have a posi, wide and sticky rear tires and a solid clutch, then launch it w a 4k rpm clutch drop you will find out how quickly you can kill a trans.

Yeah just be aware of how it's driven, run it for as long as you can and just be prepared to swap for a TKO or similar when the time comes.

I was one w/a 400. I think as long as it's on street tires and you're not the guy that breaks anvils, it will work.
