Just bought this car. Thank goodness it is up on stands because I just got it running today. Problem is that the shifter was in Park position and when the car started up, the wheels immediately were turning forward. As it idled, I moved the shifter back and forth - that had no effect on wheel speed or direction the wheels turned. Even though cables are attached, I didn't feel the shifter hitting notches for P, N, R or D. This is my first car project ever so am learning as I go! Any thoughts on what is going on?

 

Did the shift cable become disconnected from the shift lever on the transmission?...

 

Don't know but sounds like something shifter related. But if whatever is wrong with it is something inside the transmission then don't spend a nickel on fixing a THM200C. 100% pieces of junk they are. Designed from the get go for the torque and weight of the Chevy Chevette.

 

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I don't think it disconnected at the transmission. I did remove the shifter from the door but let all the connections in tact. I needed to get beneath the shifter assembly to sand out some rust

 

You need to check the linkage ear on the trans. That clip CAN/DOES sometimes pop off and leave the cable just dangling without moving the ear.
