Ford 9in axle seal
My moser 9in axle seals are driving me crazy. Any of you have any special tips on magic sealed bearings or other suggestions? I literally have to deal w replacing axle seals every year or two. Im well aware this is an f body board but enough of us have a 9in in the rear or something else so i figured Id ask. Other than that the rear is awesome. A constant slight leak makes it less awesome.
I currently have moser roller bearings installed w a light coat of rtv on the mounting surface and a new set of axle seals (again). I used a seal driver to press them in square. I haven't changed the bearings yet. Im thinking about changing them out even though they are tight and smooth. Debating about using some set20 bearing like in my broncos 9in.
thoughts, suggestions?

I have not had my 9" for that long but it's not leaking yet. I pulled it apart a few times trying different gears. Which axle package do you have?
I have the spring loaded seal in the tube, and the sealed bearing.
What are you running for a locker? I'm using the Richmond/Powertrax grip rite which is a helical design similar to a detroit locker. It's horrific. Every gear change, down shift I get a bang in the rear end. Obnoxious.

Re: Ford 9in axle seal
I've had a moser in my car since they were still using junkyard housings. The early axles with the "green" ball bearings are terrible. Iirc, its a oddball size, government contractor that supplies them. They are designed to fail. What a rep told me at sema decades ago.
Anyway, I've found out that you don't want to drive the inner axle seal in till it seats. If you do, it won't be fully on the machined surface of the axle. Once i figured that out, there were no issues. And i pulled the seal off the outer bearing and put in a bunch of new grease.
I've run a Detroit locker since i put it in. it's probably the worst choice for a driver but. I have new axles and a truetrac going in some day.

i was actually thinking about that, when i pull the axles, I'm gonna measure all of that.
its a moser complete unit w big bearings and the 1/2 in retainer bolts. I have the inner seals and the sealed bearing. It has an old auburn pro w 4.11s. Theres no clunking or any issues w drivability. The throttle is pretty sensitive in the car and in the lower gears it requires a little finesse to be smooth but nothing crazy. Ive read about how bad auburn units are and thought about swapping it but iI'm super happy w it. Every burnout leaves 2 nice black strips that are even. No wheel hop/chatter. No issues in corners. Parking lot maneuvering you can feel its really tight. Its great going through corners under power. I have roto joints through out the rear so you do feel everything but its not bad.
