Building 700r4?

Okay i currently have the stock 700r4 tranny in my gta with roughly 100k on it. Works fine right now but 220 HP isn't cutting it and thats gonna change (maybe 280-330 range). So i want to beef up my tranny and i was thinking of getting one of these B&M rebuild/overhaul kits, a stage 2 shift kit, and possibly a mild stall converter. What else do i have to do to make it handle any kind of power? How much would it cost to have someone do the rebuild? I was considering attempting a t56 swap but i decided not to because of the difficulty involved and i want to keep my car, in terms of original options, stock.

700R4 Where's the beef?

I sound like a broken record on this forum... Upgrade, dear. Some shops make a "performance" R4, but most don't. Why? It's not cost effective. You almost always have to upgrade past it. The tranny is okay for the street rod which comes out for a few events per year, but for most of us it would be a poor option.

A 700R4 will be fine if you get all of the updates done to it, have the extra clutches put in the 3-4, heavy duty sprag, and a Transgo or similar shift kit installed. Don't use the B&M kit, most members will tell you to use the Transgo kit, and I agree, but there are slightly better kits that include more upgrades. My 700 is fine behind a 383 with about 440 ft./lbs torque. I used a 2000 Stall out of a Vette because it is cheap and it is just right for my engine. good luck!

Go down to your local transmission parts distributor and check them out. Let me warn you beforehand these are not simple 30 minute install kits, they are in depth and not for the average first timer. I had expert help with mine and it is fine. All I can remember is that it was made by Superior.
