V6 or V8 trans...

the trans in my 86 is on its way out. the 2nd to third shift at WOT never happens (ive tried everything) so ive decided to swap it out for a new trans. i found another TH-700R4, but its out of an 87 camaro with a V6. my question is, can i use this trans in my car or did chevy have different internals depending on if the car was a 6 or an 8?

Only a 4.3 liter v-6 or v-8 transmission will fit a v-8. The internals are the same from '90 and up, older v-6 700's have fewer clutches.

Get one out of an Astro van

Astro's don't crash well so you can readily find them at the junkyard and those tranny's are just as tough as one that came in a V8 vehicle. BUT...you will need to put a decent shift kit in it or at least a Vette servo...trust me...been there done that.

Have you thought about keeping your current trans in the car, and rebuilding the junkyard one? YOu might get the same problem from a junkyard trans...

I had some of the same problems earlier this year with second gear. Sounds like you need an overhaul like I did. Mine was rebuilt cheap through NetGearHead for $585. www.netgearhead.com is their website. I'd recommend them for the price.

As posted earlier= Only a 4.3 liter v-6 or v-8 transmission will fit a v-8.
So the determining question would be-what size v-6? One may assume not a 4.3 in an f-body.
