350 tbi with 5spd
hey guys i decided i wunna make some serious power with my 89 formula. so i decided to swap out the 305 for a pretty strong 350. i have heard that if i do this my stock 5 spd tranny can't take this and the 350 will blow it. i plan on havin fun with my car and goiun to the track every once in a while. has any1 swaped a 350 in with there 5 spd and had any trouble. also what can i do to beef up this tranny and were can i get the parts. i wut a low high 12 low 13 secound car but i don't wunna buy a new tranny. whats the deal with gm i am a gm freak and i am startin to get disapointed in the quality of there stuff. if any1 can help please do cause if i can't swap in a 350 i guess i gotta sell this car and i really don't wunt to. thanlks

I swapped a 300HP 350 in my 92 RS,(originally 170hp 305)last summer.I have a T5 trans also.
So far it's holding up, but I've been deliberately
going easy on it.I blew it up with the 305 a couple years ago.
A WC T5 will last as long as you don't bang gears or dump the clutch a lot (but what fun is that?)
No real heavy-duty parts available for the T5,save your money for a Tremec 5 Speed or T56 6 speed tranny.(I plan on Tremec TKO later this year)
Rebuilt WC T5 is only a few hundred dollars less than Tremec.

Tremec TR-3550 is rated at 425 Ft/lbs.
Tremec TKO is rated at 525 ft/lbs.
"World Class T5 is rated at only about 290 ft/lbs!"

so basicly unless i am rich i can't have a 350. geeze why would gm make a performance car u can't even soup up thats rediculous. i am 16 and i am a gm guy. i was lookin to have a fast car i could take to the track and beat all my freinds 5.0 mustangs in but i don't see that happing now. does any1 have any suggestions on what i should do cause i really don't wunt to sell my car i love it. but i wunted to build a 350 and have a good time with my car i don't wunna be in constant fear i am gonna blow up my tranny if i do a burnout for my freinds. u know u gotta show off and be stupid to get laid aroudn my parts hahahaha:lala: well anyways does anyone have any suggestions cause i love my car
I've "heard" that as long as you don't have traction, and don't powershift it a T-5 will hold up pretty well (also, don't wheelhop under braking-roadracing).
But I've SEEN with my own eyes, a low 12 second Fox Body run for over a year with a WC T-5 (built after the Tremec takeover) and ET Streets. The tranny is still working perfectly, we're actually installing the motor/tranny in a Ranger over spring break this year.
Good Luck,
JK

what is the difference between the GM and ford T5? I have a bunch of mustang buddies running stock T5's on slicks, with a bottle, launching at 4500rpm all season? WTF? why cant a GM take that abuse?
