If you aren't kidding around with this question--
That's normal. The tranny is forced to stay in 3rd gear when the throttle past around 2/3. If you let off and it shifts into 4th and you gain some speed--when you floor it again it will force a 4-3 downshift and over-rev the engine. Basicly, at full throttle you have 1-2-3, no fouth gear.

i think i might be havin the same prob. with my 86, i didn't pay attention if it was from 3rd to OD or 2nd to 3rd i was more worried about why the hell i did it. it's only done it twice for me, dad says it's done in b4 but i dont know. it scared the crap out of me the first time, i had no idea what to do, i was just like wtf and let off the throttle and it shifted. the other time i was headed up a hill and tryin to get into it and it wouldn't shift. why does it do this??? does this mean my transmission isn't going bad i was worried about that bein the problem. i still think the tranny is goin bad cause when i first start it and go about 1/2 throttle shiftin for 2nd to 3rd it clunks bad, but i hope it isn't.

I thought it was most 700's that wouldn't let it go into OD at WOT... Mine will when I get into rebuilding and "fixing" it! I've also noticed that the 4L60-E's do the same thing! I'm guessing this is due to computer programming....
