Converter ???

Hey guys, excuse the length of this post. I'm wanting to eliminate the computer on my '84 trans am and have been told I need to modify the 700r4 to allow the lock up to work. One method is to install a switch that would lock it up manually. The other is a pressure swith that is installed in the valve body. Does anyone know of any threads that would show step by step instructions? Any other ways to do this? Would an aftermarket stall convertor eliminate the need for these mods. Thanks for bein' here.

You can install a checkball in the lock up solonoid snout and it will acctuate hydraulically. It won't work on all 700s, I can't remeber what valve in the valve body you must or musn't have in order for this to work, but i've succsesfully gotten lockup by installing a checkball in the lock up solonoid snout. If your interested in more information let me know and i'll dig up the paper work on it.

That may not be the best idea because it'll lock up second gear all the time, this and a firm shift kit and the damper springs in the converter will soon fail. Plus power will be down.
I prefer the fourth gear pressure switch myself, I also run a toggle switch inline with it to totally eliminate lock up. It's a three position switch that is also wired to bypass the switch and energize the lock up soliniod all the time, thats when it locks up in second.
