How can I id a 2 or 3 series carrier on a BW9bolt

How can I identify a 2 or 3 series carrier in a 9 bolt bw rear visually and not by ratio.

Car: 88 Camaro
Engine: 427 BBC
Transmission: T400
2 quick ways.

1) Measure the distance from the ring gear mounting surface to the carrier bearing mounting surface(s).

or

2) Measure the distance from the pinion gear shafts to the ring gear mounting surface.

I don't recall the numbers off hand, but can check tonight.
