I'm getting P1ssed. I dont know whats wrong with this converter.
Ever since I put a 2600 stall ACT 9.5 lockup converter in it has been hell for me. It shifts like a woman (got new TV cable and its adjusted correctly) it seems like its always locked up. When in 4th and into lockup and I tap the gas lightly like 1/4inch the car grinds then i let off and no grinding i tap the gas It'll grind I let off its perfect. Now this is the weird part. in 2nd gear and going 30 I'll nail it and the car will scream to about 3000 and it wil barely move then all of a sudden WHAM the car will take off like the NOS effect and the rpms will fly up and it'll move. I'm am soooooooo thinking about putting my stock stall in and seeing whats up. Also I can get get 2nd gear to go above 3000 before it shifts. I'm just so frusterated.
Higher stall converters are going to give you softer shifts, that's why in the high performance shift kits it tells you to drill the holes larger if you have a higher stall converter. All I can tell you about the converter is you can't just put a high stall converter in your car and expect it to be faster. A higher stall converter makes it easier on your engine to rev up to stall speed, but you have to have your powerband set up around it.

I would be curious as to see what the problem is...Please post the resolution to the board.
I just got my ACT 2600 converter and I hope it isn't a part problem, but maybe...
I am still happily awaiting the Pro-Built trans to go with it.

did you ever talk to dana? are you sending the act back for repair/replacement? more info please... perhaps you could describe what it was doing better too, i can't hardly understand what you were trying to convey in your original message.

who knows.
I talked to dana this afternoon. the pumps came back in from the machinist and he is doing final assembly this week. there's even an outside chance i'll get mine on friday, so that I can install this weekend. but i'm in sacramento, only a few hundred miles away from pro-built..so that helps with shipping time.

ok i am going to go indepth now. 2-3 shift was virtualy non existent at any rpm range whether normal slow driving or WOT. Second when the car would hit 45 and go into overdrive the rpms would drop like normal and the TCC light would kick on on my tech 1 meaning the converter was working and if i applied very very very force to the pedel to speed up a little it seemed the converter didnt like to be locked up and given gas at the same time. There would be a grinding sound until i moved my foot a little off the gas and when i applied just a tad of gas (i'm talking about 100 rpm or like 2 mph) the converter would bog and start to grind until i let off again. Another sympton would be if i was driving 35 or so. the converter would kick in and out of lockup as noted on the tech one. The rpms would rock back and forth 300 rpms when normal driving and i could feel the car moving in and out. Then If i nailed it the car wouldnt downshift until almost WOT and then it would kick into 2nd and scream and it seemed there was a barrier at 3000-3500 and nothing would happen. Car would just move as if you were ont eh highway and gave it a littel gas while the converter was still locked up. Then all of a sudden the car would just take off. It was unbelieveable. I thought my TV cable was bad so i purchased a new GM one and no differance. I went with all his recommendations too by using only Mobil tranny fluid in the blue bottle and I had the .110 thousanths clearance. So today i said screw it and put the stock one back in. All my troubles have disapeared and it drives and shifts like new now. I dont know what to do with teh converter. 575 bucks and 60 miles on it and I dont know what to do with it.
PS I'm going to call dana tomororw and see what he can do.
I dont know if converters are suppose to do this but it i shook the converter up and down it seemed something was loose inside, so i dont know.

That definitely sucks. I would suggest sending it back and getting another one. There are other people out there with this part who seem to be enjoying it. It would seem to me simply to be a bad convertor clutch. Then reinstall the next one...if that one fails too, then get rid of it.
I am sure that everyone has some sort of failure rate on their products, lets just hope this isn't a trend
I am looking forward to receiving my tranny, but I won't have time to install it until end of April anyway....
damn work...
