2.73 to 3.73 speed questions
I want to go form 2.73 to a 3.73 gear in my 85 camaro 305 4bbl. I have the whole rear end out of a v6 firebird (87). I will probley just swap rear ends and not mess with opening the cases. What kind of gain should I get?
I run 16.2 right now stock. 60' times a lil over 2.2 I think. I got burned by a stang last night (built 302, 400 lbs of tq and 350+ hp, 5 speed). I got beat by about 4 car lenghts. I am wanting to smoke this guy cause he thinks he has hot stuff and cant drive.
Any other info to help please tell me.
Thanks

I made a swap from 3.42 to 3.73, the 3.73's show in the 60' but other than that I'd much rather to be with 3.42's again (Broke the original ones). Assuming that you have posi and 3.73's you'll notice a good launch, but you'll hate the highways

If he's making that kind of power, your gears aren't going to help squat in beating him. That is around a high 12 second stang. They are light and with a 5 speed, 350 hp will do it.
You need to make some power. With an auto (you didn't say), get a good converter, and build your suspension, and get some sticky tires and burn him out of the hole. Then you need some good hp to stay ahead. Sounds like a long road ahead.

First of all, you have an LG4 with a horrible cam that doesn't make power up high. I'm more than willing to bet the gears don't knock off more than 1/10. I ran into the same problem with my 350. The cam in this thing sucks at high rpms, I went from 2:73s to 3:73s and knocked off 1/10 and that was with a new cat-back.
