swapping 5speed and posi rear

just need some info... ive got a good deal on a 88' sport coupe with a blown head gasket. its the V6. now for the good stuff : its got a 5speed manual and a 2.73(?) posi rear. i want to swap this stuff into my 84' Z28 LG4 auto (3.23 open end), to make it a stickshifted-posi car. is this swap doable? were there any differences between the 6 and 8 cylinder 5speeds? and if i swapped the whole trans/driveshaft/rear combo, would there be fit problems? im not planning for major power out of my camaro (ive got a 89 vette to go fast in), so i dont need the world class trans, so i was wondering if this was a good idea. One final question, do you think it would be worth it to swap in the lower rear end (with posi) over my current open ended rear (3.23)?

You will notice quite a drop in acceleration, especially off the line because rear end ratio and the first gear ratio are both higher (lower numerically) than what you have now. The transmission, is different than the v8 tranny. To start with the bell housing will have a different bolt pattern I believe. Also, I think it is the input shaft or something like that has a lower amount of splines I think 26 instead of 28 but someone else might have more acurate numbers. This means that you at least have to get a v8 bell housing, and either a different input shaft (if that is the right part) or you might possibly be able to use the smaller v6 clutch(I dont know if you can do this). Ok, now I know that I may not have had all of the right terms or numbers, but these are the problems that I have heard of people talk about with using a v6 t5. Hope this helped a bit.

so i guess i should pass on the trans and wait for a V8 version (i want to get something thats "bolt in"). i may install the rear, though, cause im tired of my open-ended rear always peeling out. thanks for the response.

The differences with the V6 tranny are the bellhousing and the input shaft as was said above. The bellhousing would have to come from a V8. The input shaft of the tranny can be replaced with some difficulty but nothing too bad. I would not try to use a V6 clutch - bad idea.

Is that rear originally from that car? I'm almost certain that V6s never came with 2.73s especially posi it should be a 3.42 open rear. My 86 2.8 is not real quick with the stock 3.42, I'd be lucky to beat a snail in the 1/4 with 2.73s.

My $0.02
