New posi or used?

Hey guys I wanna upgrade my rear end to a 3.73 or 3.42 posi. In all of your expert opinions, do you think it is better to get the SLP take off unit and buy a new gear set? Or should I go hunting for a rear out of a used car and buy the whole thing with the disc brakes and all? Which is more cost effective usually? Which is easier to work with? Thanks.

I'd say look around your town and see if there's any shops that have camaro parst. I found a place that for $350 i can get a 3.42/posi/disc rear out of a 90s third gen. good luck!

I'm facing the exact same situation - I want to upgrade my 2.73 rear. But I've come to the conclusion that buying a used rear is NOT the way I want to go. Let's face it, how do you know what condition it's in unless you're mechanical enough to inspect it?

I see way too many kids doing brakestands to even think about buying a used rear. I think you have to ask yourself, is it worth the extra money to go new or take the chance that you'll get a good used rear? I have the money to go new, so I will...
