couple t56 q's
couple t56 q's
Hi, I have a couple questions about swapping a t56 from a fourth gen (lt1 of course) into my 700r4 equipped third gen. First, could I purchase a rebuild kit somewhere. If so where, and for about how much? Second, if I bought just the tranny (can get it cheap) would I have a hard time locating the rest of the setup i would need. Does anyone have suggestions for me here, as in would I be better off just finding a complete setup? That is what I think but if i can do it this way it would be perfect. Thanks.
buy the complete set-up save your self a lot of trouble and headache. check out thirdgen rescource @ www.thirdgenresource.com they sell a complete conversion kit for about $1400 only thing you will need additionally is a crossmember. i would recommed the swap it is what i plan on doing personally as soon as i get the $$$$. oh and you might have to have your driveshaft shortened or buy one.
If you get just the tranny, you will be able to buy everything else you need new from gm or aftermarket except for the pedals. Just getting the bare tranny, you'll need to get the bellhousing, flywheel (from the lt1), pressure plate w/ throwout bearing, clutch disk, clutch hydraulics, clutch fork, shifter, electrical connectors for speedo and reverse lights, and get something worked out for a crossmember. And you'll need to get all the bolts to hold everything togther. It can be done, but it's more expensive then buying everything at once. Of course, buying new parts gets you new parts, not used ones. For my conversion I bought a tranny with bellhousing, and bought everything else new.
